Type species: ¤ Thiohalomonas denitrificans Sorokin et al. 2007.
Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; Gr. n. hals halos, salt; Gr. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Thiohalomonas, salt (-tolerant), sulfur-utilizing monad.
