Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; L. n. gutta, a drop; N.L. fem. n. Thermogutta, a drop-shaped thermophile.

Etymology: Gr. adj. hypogeôs -ôn, underground, subterranean; N.L. fem. adj. hypogea, under the earth, referring to the site of isolation.
