Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; L. adj. bifidus, cleft; N.L. fem. n. Thermobifida, the heat(-loving) cleft (sporophores).

Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; L. part. adj. tolerans, tolerating; N.L. part. adj. halotolerans, referring to the ability to tolerate high salt concentrations.
