Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Thauera, named after R.K. Thauer, a German microbiologist.

Thauera aminoaromatica Mechichi et al. 2002, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) S2 = DSM 14742 = LMG 26917.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. aminoaromatica, referring to ability to grow with aminoaromatic compounds such as 2-aminobenzoate or aromatic amino acids.
