Type genus: ¤ Syntrophomonas McInerney et al. 1982.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Syntrophomonas, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Syntrophomonadaceae, the Syntrophomonas family.
