Etymology: L. neut. n. spelaeum, a cave; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Spelaeicoccus, a coccus from cave.

Spelaeicoccus albus Lee 2013, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Etymology: L. masc. adj. albus, white, referring to the colour of the colonies.
