Type species: ¤ Singulisphaera acidiphila Kulichevskaya et al. 2008.
Etymology: L. adj. singuli, single, separate; L. fem. n. sphaera, sphere; N.L. fem. n. Singulisphaera, a single spherical cell.

Etymology: N.L. n. acidum (from L. adj. acidus, sour), an acid; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. fem. adj. acidiphila, acid-loving.
