Selenomonas von Prowazek 1913, genus. (Type genus of the order ¤ Selenomonadales Marchandin et al. 2010).
Type species: ¤ Selenomonas sputigena (Flügge 1886) Boskamp 1922 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. n. selênê, the moon; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Selenomonas, moon (-shaped) monad.
