Roseiflexus Hanada et al. 2002, gen. nov. (Type genus of the suborder ¤ Roseiflexineae Gupta et al. 2013; type genus of the family ¤ Roseiflexaceae Gupta et al. 2013).
Type species: ¤ Roseiflexus castenholzii Hanada et al. 2002.
Recommended three-letter abbreviation: Rof. (see the file ¤ "Three-letter code for abbreviations of generic names").
Etymology: L. adj. roseus, rose-coloured; L. masc. n. flexus, a bending, turning; N.L. masc. n. Roseiflexus, rose-coloured bending.

Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) HLO8 = DSM 13941 = JCM 11240 = NBRC 100045.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB041226.
Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. castenholzii, of Castenholz, named after Richard W. Castenholz, an American microbiologist who notably contributed to our knowledge of thermophilic filamentous phototrophs.
