Type species: ¤ Rhodoblastus acidophilus (Pfennig 1969) Imhoff 2001.
Recommended three-letter abbreviation: Rbl. (see the file ¤ "Three-letter code for abbreviations of generic names").
Etymology: Gr. n. rhodon, the rose; Gr. masc. n. blastos, bud shoot; N.L. masc. n. Rhodoblastus, the budding rose.

Etymology: N.L. n. acidum (from L. adj. acidus sour), an acid; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. acidophilus, acid-loving.

Etymology: N.L. n. Sphagnum, generic name of sphagnum moss; L. suff. -cola (from L. n. incola), inhabitant, dweller; N.L. n. sphagnicola, inhabitant of Sphagnum.
