Type species: ¤ Proteiniborus ethanoligenes Niu et al. 2008.
Etymology: N.L. n. proteinum, protein; Gr. adj. boros, gluttonous; N.L. masc. n. Proteiniborus, protein-consumer.
Valid publication: NIU (L.), SONG (L.) and DONG (X.): Proteiniborus ethanoligenes gen. nov., sp. nov., an anaerobic protein-utilizing bacterium. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2008, 58, 12-16.

Etymology: N.L. n. ethanol -is, ethanol; Gr. v. gennao, to produce; N.L. part. adj. ethanoligenes, ethanol-producing.
