Name: Promicromonospora Krassilnikov et al. 1961 (Approved Lists 1980)
Etymology: Gr. prep. pro, before, primitive; Gr. masc. adj. mikros, small (may keep -o); Gr. masc. adj. monos, single, solitary; Gr. fem. n. spora, a seed, and in biology a spore; N.L. fem. n. Promicromonospora, the genus name was coined to reflect the combination of traits then thought to be characteristic of the actinomycete form-genera Proactinomyces (the tendency of the mycelium to fragment) and Micromonospora (the formation of single spores on the substrate mycelium)
Gender: feminine (stem: Promicromonospor-)
Type species: Promicromonospora citrea Krassilnikov et al. 1961 (Approved Lists 1980)
