Type species: ¤ Piscibacillus salipiscarius Tanasupawat et al. 2007.
Etymology: L. n. piscis, fish; L. masc. n. bacillus, small rod; N.L. masc. n. Piscibacillus, a rod from fish.
Valid publication: TANASUPAWAT (S.), NAMWONG (S.), KUDO (T.) and ITOH (T.): Piscibacillus salipiscarius gen. nov., sp. nov., a moderately halophilic bacterium from fermented fish (pla-ra) in Thailand. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2007, 57, 1413-1417.

Piscibacillus halophilus Amoozegar et al. 2009, sp. nov.
Type strain: strain HS224 = CCM 7596 = DSM 21633 = JCM 15721 = LMG 24786.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: FM864227.
Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. halophilus, salt-loving.

Etymology: L. n. sal salis, salt; L. adj. piscarius, of or belonging to fish; N.L. masc. adj. salipiscarius, of or belonging to a salted fish.
