Type species: ¤ Pelomonas saccharophila (Doudoroff 1940) Xie and Yokota 2005.
Etymology: Gr. n. pelos, mud; Gr. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Pelomonas, a monad isolated from mud.
