Type species: ¤ Marinivirga aestuarii Park et al. 2013.
Etymology: L. adj. marinus, of the sea, marine; L. fem. n. virga, a slender green branch, a rod; N.L. fem. n. Marinivirga, a marine rod.
Valid publication: PARK (S.C.), CHOE (H.N.), HWANG (Y.M.), BAIK (K.S.), KIM (S.N.), LEE (Y.S.), JUNG (J.S.) and SEONG (C.N.): Marinivirga aestuarii gen. nov., sp. nov., a member of the family Flavobacteriaceae, isolated from marine environments, and emended descriptions of the genera Hyunsoonleella, Jejuia and Pontirhabdus and the species Hyunsoonleella jejuensis, Jejuia pallidilutea and Pontirhabdus pectinivorans. Etymology: L. gen. n. aestuarii, of a tidal flat, from where the organism was isolated.
