Type species: ¤ Levilinea saccharolytica Yamada et al. 2006.
Etymology: L. adj. levis, smooth; L. fem. n. linea, line; N.L. fem. n. Levilinea, smooth, line-shaped organism.
Valid publication: YAMADA (T.), SEKIGUCHI (Y.), HANADA (S.), IMACHI (H.), OHASHI (A.), HARADA (H.) and KAMAGATA (Y.): Anaerolinea thermolimosa sp. nov., Levilinea saccharolytica gen. nov., sp. nov. and Leptolinea tardivitalis gen. nov., sp. nov., novel filamentous anaerobes, and description of the new classes Anaerolineae classis nov. and Caldilineae classis nov. in the bacterial phylum Chloroflexi. Levilinea saccharolytica Yamada et al. 2006, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Etymology: Gr. n. saccharon, sugar; N.L. adj. lyticus -a -um (from Gr. adj. lutikos -ê -on), able to loosen, able to dissolve; N.L. fem. adj. saccharolytica, saccharolytic, using various sugars.
