Type genus: ¤ Leptospira Noguchi 1917 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Leptospira, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Leptospiraceae, the Leptospira family.
