Type species: ¤ Leeuwenhoekiella marinoflava (Reichenbach 1989) Nedashkovskaya et al. 2005.
Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Leeuwenhoekiella, named in honour of the famous Dutchman Antonie van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723), discoverer of micro-organisms.

Leeuwenhoekiella blandensis Pinhassi et al. 2006, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) MED 217 = CCUG 51940 = CECT 7118.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. blandensis, pertaining to Blande or Blanda, the name the Romans used for the city of Blanes, which has given its name to the Bay of Blanes, where the type strain was isolated.
