Type species: ¤ Halomicrobium mukohataei (Ihara et al. 1997) Oren et al. 2002.
Recommended three-letter abbreviation: Hmc. (see the file ¤ "Three-letter code for abbreviations of generic names").
Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; N.L. neut. n. microbium (from Gr. adj. mikros, small and Gr. n. bios, life), a microbe; N.L. neutr. n. Halomicrobium, small, salt-life form.

Halomicrobium katesii Kharroub et al. 2008, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) Al-5 = CECT 7257 = DSM 19301.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: EF533994.
Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. katesii, of Kates, named in honour of Professor Morris Kates, for his contributions on halophilic micro-organisms.

Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. mukohataei, of Mukohata, named after Yasuo Mukohata, Japanese biochemist and biophysicist.
