Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Gynuella, an arbitrary name after Gyeongsang National University.

Gynuella sunshinyii Chung et al. 2015, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) YC6258=KCCM 43015=NBRC 109345.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA) for the type strain: KC213486.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. sunshinyii, of Sun Shin Yi, a renowned Korean hero, a naval commander of the 15th century, who died during a battle at Namhae Island, where the type strain was isolated.
