Etymology: N.L. n. flavonum, flavone; L. masc. n. fractor, breaker; N.L. masc. n. Flavonifractor, flavone-breaker.

Basonym: ¤ Fusobacterium plautii corrig. Séguin 1928 (Approved Lists 1980).
Another homotypic synonym: ¤ Eubacterium plautii (Séguin 1928) Hofstad and Aasjord 1982.

Etymology: N.L. masc. gen. n. plautii, of Plaut; named for H.C. Plaut, the bacteriologist who first described this organism.
