Ferrithrix Johnson et al. 2009, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Ferrithrix thermotolerans Johnson et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. n. ferrum, iron; Gr. fem. n. thrix, hair, thread; N.L. fem. n. Ferrithrix, iron thread, referring to filamentous nature and capacity for ferrous iron oxidation.
Valid publication: JOHNSON (D.B.), BACELAR-NICOLAU (P.), OKIBE (N.), THOMAS (A.) and HALLBERG (K.B.): Ferrimicrobium acidiphilum gen. nov., sp. nov. and Ferrithrix thermotolerans gen. nov., sp. nov.: heterotrophic, iron-oxidizing, extremely acidophilic actinobacteria. Etymology: Gr. n. thermê, heat; L. part. adj. tolerans, tolerating; N.L. part. adj. thermotolerans, heat-tolerating, able to tolerate high temperatures.
