Etymology: L. part. extensus, extended; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Extensimonas, extended unit (bacterium).
Valid publication: ZHANG (W.Y.), FANG (M.X.), ZHANG (W.W.), XIAO (C.), ZHANG (X.Q.), YU (Z.P.), ZHU (X.F.) and WU (M.): Extensimonas vulgaris gen. nov., sp. nov., a member of the family Comamonadaceae. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2013, 63, 2062-2068.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. vulgaris, common, referring to the lack of specific characteristics.
