Type species: ¤ Edaphobacter modestus Koch et al. 2008.
Etymology: Gr. neut. n. edaphos, soil; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Edaphobacter, rod-shaped soil bacterium.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. dinghuensis, pertaining to Mount Dinghu, PR China, the source of the soil from which the type strain was isolated.
