Desulfurobacterium L'Haridon et al. 1998, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Desulfurobacteriaceae L'Haridon et al. 2006).

Etymology: L. pref. de, from; L. n. sulfur, sulphur; L. neut. n. bacterium, a stick, staff; N.L. neut. n. Desulfurobacterium, sulphur-reducing rod-shaped bacterium.
