Desulfovibrionaceae Kuever et al. 2006, fam. nov.
Type genus: ¤ Desulfovibrio Kluyver and van Niel 1936 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Desulfovibrio, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Desulfovibrionaceae, the Desulfovibrio family.
