Type genus: ¤ Desulfobacter Widdel 1981.
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Desulfobacter, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Desulfobacteraceae, the Desulfobacter family.
