Type species: ¤ Dasania marina Lee et al. 2008.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Dasania, named in honour of Dasan, a Korean scientist in 18th and 19th century and after the name of Korean Arctic research station, Dasan Station, in Ny-Ålesund.

Type strain: strain KOPRI 20902 = JCM 13441 = KCTC 12566.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AY771747.
Etymology: L. fem. adj. marina, of the sea, marine, referring to the environment where the type strain was isolated.
