Etymology: L. n. concha, shell; L. adj. suffix -formis -is -e (from L. n. forma, figure, shape, appearance), -like, in the shape of; Gr. masc. n. bios, life; N.L. masc. n. Conchiformibius, shell-shaped life.

Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) ATCC 29437= IAM 15037 = JCM 21500 = NBRC 102458.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AF328150.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. kuhniae, of Kuhn, named for D. A. Kuhn, who first described these organisms.

Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) ATCC 27409= IAM 14972 = JCM 21443 = NBRC 102457.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB087261.
Basonym: ¤ Simonsiella steedae Kuhn and Gregory 1979 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. gen. fem. n. steedae, of Steed, named for Pamela D. M. Steed Glaister, who first isolated axenic cultures of Simonsiella and erected the family Simonsiellaceae.
