Cavalier-Smith (2002) assigned this class to the subphylum "Thiobacteria" Cavalier-Smith 2002.Publication:
Cavalier-Smith T. The neomuran origin of archaebacteria, the negibacterial root of the universal tree and bacterial megaclassification. Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 2002; 52:7-76.
The type order of this class has been placed in the class Aquificae Reysenbach 2002.Publication:
Reysenbach A-L. Class I. Aquificae class. nov. In: Boone DR, Castenholz RW, Garrity GM (eds), Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology, 2nd edn, vol. 1 (The Archaea and the Deeply Branching and Phototrophic Bacteria), Springer, New York, 2001, p. 359-367.
Type order "Aquificales" Reysenbach 2001 is not validly published. Rejected Name (Judicial Commission, Opinion 79 suppl.; IJSEM 64: 3599–3602).Publication:
Tindall BJ. Names at the rank of class, subclass and order, their typification and current status: Supplementary information to Opinion 79. Judicial Commission of the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes. Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 2014; 64:3599-3602.
The type order "Aquificales" Reysenbach 2001 does not appear on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names, and was not validly published when Cavalier-Smith proposed the class Epsilobacteria (January 14, 2002). The order Aquificales Reysenbach 2002 (previously known as "Aquificales" Reysenbach 2001) was validly published in the May 2002 issue of the IJSEM (Validation List no. 85). Consequently, Epsilobacteria Cavalier-Smith 2002 is illegitimate. Validation List no. 85 in IJSEM Online.
