Type species: ¤ Zhouia amylolytica Liu et al. 2006.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Zhouia, named after Professor Pei-Jin Zhou, a pioneer of environmental microbiology in China.
Valid publication: LIU (Z.P.), WANG (B.J.), DAI (X.), LIU (X.Y.) and LIU (S.J.): Zhouia amylolytica gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel member of the family Flavobacteriaceae isolated from sediment of the South China Sea. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2006, 56, 2825-2829.

Zhouia amylolytica Liu et al. 2006, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) HN-171 = CGMCC 1.6114 = JCM 14016.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: DQ423479.
Etymology: Gr. n. amulon, starch; N.L. adj. lyticus -a -um (from Gr. adj. lutikos -ê -on), able to loosen, able to dissolve; N.L. fem. adj. amylolytica, dissolving starch, pertaining to the ability of the bacterium to hydrolyse starch.
