Etymology: L. adj. verrucosus -a -um, warty; Gr. fem. n. spora, a seed and in biology a spore; N.L. fem. n. Verrucosispora, an organism with warty spores.

Etymology: N.L. fem. n. gifhhornensis, of or belonging to to the city of Gifhorn, adjacent to the peat bog from which the organism was isolated.
