Type species: ¤ Thorsellia anophelis Kämpfer et al. 2006.
Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Thorsellia, named in honour of Walborg Thorsell, a pioneer on mosquito repellent research in Sweden.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. kandunguensis, of or belonging to Kandungu village, Mwea, Kenya, referring to the location of isolation of the type strain.
