Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; Gr. n. hals halos, salt; N.L. masc. n. bacter a rod; N.L. masc. n. Thiohalobacter, halophilic sulfur rod.

Etymology: N.L. n. thiocyanas -atis, thiocyanate; L. masc. suff. -icus, suffix used in adjectives with the sense of belonging to; N.L. masc. adj. thiocyanaticus, related to thiocyanate, utilizing thiocyanate.
