Thiocapsa Winogradsky 1888, genus. (Type genus of the family ¤ Thiocapsaceae Bavendamm 1924 [Approved Lists 1980]).
Type species: ¤ Thiocapsa roseopersicina Winogradsky 1888 (Approved Lists 1980).

Etymology: N.L. gen. n. pfennigii, of Pfennig, named after N. Pfennig, a German microbiologist.
