Thermodesulfovibrio Henry et al. 1994, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Thermodesulfovibrio yellowstonii Henry et al. 1994.
Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, warm, hot; L. pref. de-, from; L. n. sulfur, sulfur; L. v. vibro, to vibrate; N.L. masc. n. Vibrio, that which vibrates, and also the name of a bacterial genus which encompasses curved bacteria; N.L. masc. n. Thermodesulfovibrio, a thermophilic curved bacterium that reduces sulfur.

Etymology: N.L. n. hydrogenum (from Gr. n. hudôr, water; and Gr. v. gennaô, to produce), hydrogen (that which produces water, so called because it forms water when exposed to oxygen); N.L. masc. adj. philus (from Gr. masc. adj. philos), friend, loving; N.L. neut. adj. hydrogeniphilus, hydrogen loving.
