Thermococcales Zillig 1988, ord. nov. (Type order of the class ¤ Protoarchaea Cavalier-Smith 2002; type order of the class ¤ Thermococci Zillig and Reysenbach 2002).
Type genus: ¤ Thermococcus Zillig 1983.
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Thermococcus, type genus of the order; suff. -ales, ending denoting an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Thermococcales, the Thermococcus order.
