Type species: ¤ Thermochromatium tepidum (Madigan 1986) Imhoff et al. 1998.
Recommended three-letter abbreviation: Tch. (see the file ¤ "Three-letter code for abbreviations of generic names").
Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; N.L. neut. n. Chromatium, a genus name; N.L. neut. n. Thermochromatium, the hot Chromatium.

Etymology: L. neut. adj. tepidum, moderately warm, lukewarm.
