Type species: ¤ Thalassococcus halodurans Lee et al. 2007.
Etymology: Gr. n. thalassa, the ocean; N.L. masc. n. coccus from Gr. n. kokkos, berry, coccus; N.L. masc. n. Thalassococcus, coccus from the ocean.
Valid publication: LEE (O.O.), TSOI (M.M.Y.), LI (X.), WONG (P.K.) and QIAN (P.Y.): Thalassococcus halodurans gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel halotolerant member of the Roseobacter clade isolated from the marine sponge Halichondria panicea at Friday Harbor, USA.
