Etymology: L. adj. tardus, slow; Gr. v. phagein, to eat; N.L. fem. n. Tardiphaga, slow eater.

Tardiphaga robiniae De Meyer et al. 2012, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: FR753034.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. robiniae, of Robinia, botanical name of a genus of leguminous plant, referring to Robinia pseudoacacia, the host from which this species was first isolated.
