Type genus: ¤ Syntrophus Mountfort et al. 1984.
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Syntrophus, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Syntrophaceae, the Syntrophus family.
