Etymology: L. neut. n. sulfur, sulfur; L. neut. n. ovum, egg; N.L. neut. n. Sulfurovum, sulfur (-oxidizing) egg.

Etymology: Gr. masc. n. lithos, stone; Gr. adj. trophicos, nursing; tending, feeding; N.L. neut. adj. lithotrophicum, feeding on inorganic substrates.
