Type species: ¤ Sulfuricella denitrificans Kojima and Fukui 2010.
Etymology: L. n. sulfur, sulfur; L. fem. n. cella, a small room and, in biology, a cell; N.L. fem. n. Sulfuricella, sulfur(-oxidizing) cell.
