Sporobacterium Mechichi et al. 1999, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Sporobacterium olearium Mechichi et al. 1999.
Etymology: Gr. n. spora, a seed and, in biology, a spore; L. neut. n. bacterium, rod; N.L. neut. n. Sporobacterium, spore-forming rod.
Valid publication: MECHICHI (T.), LABAT (M.), GARCIA (J.L.), THOMAS (P.) and PATEL (B.K.C.): Sporobacterium olearium gen. nov., sp. nov., a new methanethiol-producing bacterium that degrades aromatic compounds, isolated from an olive mill wastewater treatment digester. Etymology: L. neut. adj. olearium, of or belonging to oil, related to olive oil.
