Sporichthyaceae Rainey et al. 1997 (complete authorship reads Rainey, Ward-Rainey and Stackebrandt), fam. nov.
Type genus: ¤ Sporichthya Lechevalier et al. 1968 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Sporichthya, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Sporichthyaceae, the Sporichthya family.
