Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Shinella, named after Yong-Kook Shin, for his contributions to reclassification of the genus Zoogloea.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. daejeonensis, of or pertaining to Daejeon, a city in South Korea, from where the type strain was isolated.
