Type species: ¤ Sediminimonas qiaohouensis Wang et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. n. sedimen -inis, sediment; L. fem. n. monas, monad unit; N.L. fem. n. Sediminimonas, monad isolated from sediment.
Valid publication: WANG (Y.X.), WANG (Z.G.), LIU (J.H.), CHEN (Y.G.), ZHANG (X.X.), WEN (M.L.), XU (L.H.), PENG (Q.) and CUI (X.L.): Sediminimonas qiaohouensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a member of the Roseobacter clade in the order Rhodobacterales. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2009, 59, 1561-1567.

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: EU878003.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. qiaohouensis, from the Qiaohou salt mine, where the type strain was isolated.
