Type species: ¤ Sciscionella marina Tian et al. 2009.
Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Sciscionella, arbitrary name formed from the acronym of the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, SCISCIO, where taxonomic studies on this taxon were performed.
Valid publication: TIAN (X.P.), ZHI (X.Y.), QIU (Y.Q.), ZHANG (Y.Q.), TANG (S.K.), XU (L.H.), ZHANG (S.) and LI (W.J.): Sciscionella marina gen. nov., sp. nov., a marine actinomycete isolated from a sediment in the northern South China Sea. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2009, 59, 222-228.
