Type species: ¤ Saonia flava Fagervold et al. 2017.
Etymology: L. fem. n. Sao, the Nereid Sao; N.L. fem. n. Saonia, named after Sao, the Nereid of ‘safe’ passage, or the rescue of sailors, referring to the marine origin.
