Etymology: L. fem. pl. n. salinae, salterns, salt-works; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Salinibacter, a rod from salt-works.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. iranicus, belonging to Iran.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. luteus, orange, referring to the orange pigmentation of colonies of the type strain.
